Quirky things I have noticed since living back in the US

I am still surprised to smell a rose in the US and it doesn't smell like dust.

I don't put my pop or water in the frig, but prefer room temperature. (My fellow Americans find it weird.)

I have to remember to say excuse me when bumping into people, otherwise they think I am rude. (When you live in one of the most populated countries in the world, you would be saying excuse me all the time! so they don't say it.)

I am still surprised when the power goes out and it doesn't take 12+ hours to come back on. (Power outages in Hohhot were common and signs were posted to notify us in Chinese, which wasn't very helpful.)

I have to remember to bus my own trays at fast food restaurants in the US. I often will stand up and walk away and then remember I have to do it myself. (In China, people are hired to do it for you and do not like it when you bus your own trays.)

I often forget to put my seatbelt on. (In China, it is an insult to the driver's driving ability to put a seatbelt on.)

When I see people of Asian ethnicity, I have this overwhelming urge to go speak Chinese with them. (Don't worry I haven't acted on this urge, but it is a powerful one!) :)
