The last two days in Beijing have been gorgeous! Just stunning--blue blue skies, fluffy white clouds, and the visibility is pristinely clear. To those of you who live around these types of conditions all the time, this might not seem like a big deal, but Beijing is one of the most polluted cities in the world.
In May we had 11 clear days. The other days are smoggy--sometimes orangy skies, yellow, or just dark grey. Or it can be clear straight up, but you might not be able to see the mountains and anything near the horizon.
I read recently that the smog is like smoking eight cigarettes a day in Beijing! So when a clear day comes, you can understand why it is a big deal. Today I am going to a park with a Chinese friend and I am going to breathe deeply!
